Lights for Learning

Solar Lanterns Project with US Peace Corps Volunteers

In November 2013, NECF distributed 448 solar lamps to children in 15 different primary and secondary schools in Webuye, Busia and Homa Bay counties; in Nyanza and Western Kenya.

The NECF distribution team was on the road for several days, drove a distance of over 1,000 kilo meters, navigated rough terrain, to reach the children in these areas, very rural, some very remote.  During distribution at all the sites, NECF was helped by American volunteers, posted by the US Peace Corps in rural Kenya, as NECF project facilitators.

Given that we distributed 438 lights, and the average household has four children, we potentially enriched the lives of about 1,750 children in these communities.
